American Idol Kevin Covais

Kevin Covais was born on May 30, 1989 in Levittown, New York. He grew up with two older siblings and has been singing since he was ten years old. He also worked with a vocal coach for four years. Before auditioning for season 5 of American Idol, Kevin was a student at Island Trees High School. In 2003, he joined and won the Eisenhower Park's Reach for the Stars competition. He was supposed to star in his school's musical Anything Goes, but let go of the role to pursue his dreams on American Idol. He is a big sports fan, and his favorite teams are the New York Yankees, The New Jersey Nets and the New York Jets. He names American Idol season 1 winner Kelly Clarkson and Brian McKnight as his favorite artists.

Kevin Covais auditioned for season 4 of American Idol in Boston, Massachusetts. He received the much-coveted golden ticket and went on to sing "One Last Cry, "I Heard It Through the Grapevine," and "Vincent (Starry, Starry Night)" in the semifinals. The third performance were praised by Randy and Paula, but Simon bashed it, remarking that only old people would appreciate it. Nevertheless, Kevin made it to the Finals, but was eliminated from the show after only two weeks. He returned to the stage for the season finale, where he sang Tom Jones' "What's New Pussycat?" with the rest of the Top 12.

Being eliminated from the show did not deter Kevin from pursuing his career as a singer. He has appeared on several television shows such as Jimmy Kimmel Live, Live with Regis and Kelly, The Today Show and The Ellen DeGeneres Show. In 2006, he was part of a Disneyworld holiday concert. He has returned to school, resuming his activities with the Drama Club and is still busy coordinating with his marketing agent David Arluck regarding his diabetes-related projects, as he himself is Type-1 diabetic.
