American Idol Amy Adams

Amy Cristina Adams was born on July 25, 1979 in Kansas City, Kansas but moved to
Bakersfield, California, where she got a job as a make-up artist. She has been singing since she was ten years old and but had not received any training for music before she joined season 3 of American Idol. Amy enjoys listening to the music of John Mayer and Madonna, but likens her singing style to Celine Dion, Faith Hill and even Barbra Streisand. Amy wanted to become the third American Idol because she believes that reaching out to the masses is most possible through the power of music. For her, an American Idol is someone who is not only immensely talented, but also someone who is respectable, graceful and elegant.

Amy traveled all the way to Atlanta, Georgia in order to audition for season 3 of American Idol. She was able to make it to the semifinals, where she sang "Dancing in the Street." Her spunky attitude and her bright pink hair quickly earned her a following, but it was not enough to push her through the Finals. Although she gave an impressive performance singing "Sin Wagon" by the Dixie Chicks, her following renditions of "You Make Me Feel Brand New" and "Power of Love" was not as well-received. After spending only three weeks in the Finals, Amy was the third person eliminated from the show.

Since the show, Amy has returned to being a professional make-up artist after she became the first non-Top 5 Finalist to appear in The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Her son with husband Ross Varner was born in May 2005. In the same year, she took the part of the Narrator in the touring production of Andrew Lloyd Weber's Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
